This is a truly haunting story that was written so beautifully。 This subject matter is not for everyone but I think it is an extremely important book。 I left feeling sad and hopeful after finishing。 I don't know if I'll ever reread but I'll carry this story for forever。 This is a truly haunting story that was written so beautifully。 This subject matter is not for everyone but I think it is an extremely important book。 I left feeling sad and hopeful after finishing。 I don't know if I'll ever reread but I'll carry this story for forever。 。。。more

I finished it in almost 2 days。 I don’t want to insult Colleen Hoover and her fans but this book is much better than hers。 First of all, according to my opinion every teenage girl and parents should read it。 So they can understand how manipulation and sexual abuse can look like! So many signs and no one couldn’t find the courage to talk!

This book has broken me, such a disturbing story but so beautifully written and important for the world we live in。 Several parts of this book were so difficult to read but I’m glad to have read it。

My Dark Vanessa 2 ⭐️This story was written beautifully, it really showed the trauma that comes from being groomed, and suffering abuse at the hands of an adult as a child。 The author did an amazing job depicting that。 I found this to be slow, and filled with so many fillers, that didn’t relate to the story at all。 I really struggled to get through it because of that。 Otherwise the writing was great just not something that really kept me interested throughout the story。

Incredibly heartbreaking, but a must-read for sure。 Wonderfully written。

When I first Lolita as a teenager, I was convinced it was a love story。 As I grew older, I realized Lolita was far from a love story but a horror story about a man who manipulated a child and took her innocence away。 In Lolita, we read it from Humbert-Humbert's (the pedophile) point of view。 He describes Dolores(to whom he gives the name Lolita) as someone who seduced him, which is far from the truth。 Vladamir Nabokov(author) said that Humbert was an unreliable narrator。 In "My Dark Vanessa" by When I first Lolita as a teenager, I was convinced it was a love story。 As I grew older, I realized Lolita was far from a love story but a horror story about a man who manipulated a child and took her innocence away。 In Lolita, we read it from Humbert-Humbert's (the pedophile) point of view。 He describes Dolores(to whom he gives the name Lolita) as someone who seduced him, which is far from the truth。 Vladamir Nabokov(author) said that Humbert was an unreliable narrator。 In "My Dark Vanessa" by Kate Elizabeth Russell, we can now see the story from the victim's point of view, how the abuse had brainwashed her and how she learns to heal from her trauma。 This novel beautifully captures what it is like to be a victim of sexual assault as a young child and how manipulation can downplay your experiences。 This novel was heartbreaking, and I couldn't stop thinking about it for days。 This novel gave me the closure I desperately looked for in Lolita。 。。。more

I'm not going to rate this book, because for me it just doesn't feel right。 The only thing I'm going to say is: If something like this ever happend to you,IT'S。 NOT。 YOUR。 FAULT。 I'm not going to rate this book, because for me it just doesn't feel right。 The only thing I'm going to say is: If something like this ever happend to you,IT'S。 NOT。 YOUR。 FAULT。 。。。more

There is something about the book that makes it real。 The writing is amazing the book seems as if it was written by a person who experienced this sort of thing。 I felt disturbed most of the time and have to put it down a lot of times because I couldn't take it anymore。 But it was so well written and I wanted to know more and more about the story。 Before reading check TWs。 There is something about the book that makes it real。 The writing is amazing the book seems as if it was written by a person who experienced this sort of thing。 I felt disturbed most of the time and have to put it down a lot of times because I couldn't take it anymore。 But it was so well written and I wanted to know more and more about the story。 Before reading check TWs。 。。。more

3。5 almost 4 but it was a little drawn out for me。 This was really good, the way that she was talking about things as if it wasn't a big deal, but as a reader the red flags were blaring。 It was good, intense, but good。 3。5 almost 4 but it was a little drawn out for me。 This was really good, the way that she was talking about things as if it wasn't a big deal, but as a reader the red flags were blaring。 It was good, intense, but good。 。。。more

In terms of writing style, this was an easy read, but in terms of content, this was an extremely difficult one。 I could really only read a chapter at a time and felt sick during certain parts。 Yet it’s an incredibly powerful story and experiencing the manipulation Vanessa faced from her perspective was especially eye opening。 Unfortunately I felt like there were a lot of unnecessary and drawn out additional characters and plot lines (Henry, Ira, Bridget) and so the book probably could’ve been sh In terms of writing style, this was an easy read, but in terms of content, this was an extremely difficult one。 I could really only read a chapter at a time and felt sick during certain parts。 Yet it’s an incredibly powerful story and experiencing the manipulation Vanessa faced from her perspective was especially eye opening。 Unfortunately I felt like there were a lot of unnecessary and drawn out additional characters and plot lines (Henry, Ira, Bridget) and so the book probably could’ve been shorter。 But in saying that, I think a lot of complex topics were covered and woven together in a really realistic and thoughtful way。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I couldn't do it。 I couldn't get past the explicitly described rape scene。 I'm sure it's a great book, but I can't bring myself to read any further。  I couldn't do it。 I couldn't get past the explicitly described rape scene。 I'm sure it's a great book, but I can't bring myself to read any further。  。。。more

This is the kind of book that occupies all your headspace when you’re reading it, and some parts are very difficult to read because of the content。 This book will make you feel anger, sadness, and hopefulness- all very deeply。 I think it was a brave and expertly crafted novel that felt like real life。

I'm giving this 4 stars with a shoulder to cry on。 This story is undeniably well-written and richly drawn。 It's a carefully executed story of sexual abuse and trauma。 It's profoundly disturbing but captivating。 Frustrating, but with insightful intentions。 Russell made sure that this story would have an impact on many readers。 It was definitely an overwhelming reading experience。 Vanessa Wye will be living in my head rent-free for a while。 I'm giving this 4 stars with a shoulder to cry on。 This story is undeniably well-written and richly drawn。 It's a carefully executed story of sexual abuse and trauma。 It's profoundly disturbing but captivating。 Frustrating, but with insightful intentions。 Russell made sure that this story would have an impact on many readers。 It was definitely an overwhelming reading experience。 Vanessa Wye will be living in my head rent-free for a while。 。。。more

Please check Trigger warnings as it is a very descriptive book and could be triggering。 I have never felt such conflicting emotions when reading a book。 It was heart wrenching, tragic, and at times uncomfortable。 A book that is necessary for people to read。 Reading the perspective of the victim and walking through all her heavy emotions were gut wrenching。 I believe many people need to read this book to understand the emotions a victim struggles with。 A hard and emotional read <3

I couldn’t put this book down。 It was an incredibly compelling, emotionally gripping, (at times disturbing), look at sexual abuse, through the eyes of a fifteen year old girl。 The author did a very convincing job of showing how blurry the lines between love and abuse can be, especially to an impressionable teenager。 The aftermath, decades later, was also portrayed so realistically。 The writing was excellent, the storyline unique and provocative。

Umm wow。 How can this book feel so relatable with it not being relatable。 I literally felt like I was inside Vanessa and everything that was happening to her was also happening to me。 I felt how easy it was to be manipulated and to continue to believe in the lie of a pedophile。 The hardest thing about trauma is the acceptance。 It was still hard to read how she didn't accept that he did anything wrong because "she wanted it and felt she was empowered"。 Although I could not read this fast enough。 Umm wow。 How can this book feel so relatable with it not being relatable。 I literally felt like I was inside Vanessa and everything that was happening to her was also happening to me。 I felt how easy it was to be manipulated and to continue to believe in the lie of a pedophile。 The hardest thing about trauma is the acceptance。 It was still hard to read how she didn't accept that he did anything wrong because "she wanted it and felt she was empowered"。 Although I could not read this fast enough。 Now I have to read Lolita 😂 。。。more
